Economics and Social Justice in Jewish Tradition
Sunday, 23 June 2013, Israel Democracy Institute, 4 Pinsker St., Jerusalem - As the Knesset debates a budget with cuts to social programs and the return of the Wisconsin welfare program, rabbis, scholars, and other thought-leaders will gather to examine how Jewish sources can inform socio-economic policy in the Jewish State.
On Wednesday, June 26 from 9:00 to 16:00, IDI will convene a conference, in cooperation with the Ruderman Family Foundation and an anonymous donor operating in Israel, that will explore topics such as:
- The Social-Economic Constitution of the Bible
- Transforming Welfare Policy
- The Institution of Credit in Jewish Law
Participants will include:
- Rabbi Benny Lau, Head of IDI's Human Rights & Judaism in Action project; Rabbi of the Ramban Synagogue in Jerusalem
- Prof. Fania Oz-Salzberger, Faculty of Law at University of Haifa
- Rabbi Dr. Joseph Isaac Lifshitz, Shalem College
- Prof. Yedidia Stern, VP of Research at IDI; Law Prof. at Bar-Ilan University
