THE LOBBYIST REPORT: SETTING BOUNDARIES FOR LOBBYING ACTIVITY IN ISRAEL

Proposal for Regulating Lobbyist Activity to be Presented to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin

Thursday, January 3, 2013, 11:00AM, Office of the Knesset Speaker, Knesset, Jerusalem– At the beginning of 2012, a Channel 2 investigative report exposed the underside of the lobbying profession in Israel, sparking controversy and widespread condemnation.

In response, IDI prepared a comprehensive proposal for regulating political lobbying in Israel. The proposal, entitled Regulation of Lobbying in Israel, will be presented to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin by Israel Democracy Institute Vice President Prof. Mordechai Kremnitzer.

The proposal is based on the assumption that lobbying is a legitimate activity and, when conducted properly, even desirable in a liberal democracy. However, to prevent inappropriate lobbying activities, it is important to adopt a number of legislative and regulatory guidelines that will ensure transparency and institutionalize supervision of lobbying activities in Israel.

Please note that Prof. Kremnitzer will take questions from reporters at the event but will not interview on this subject prior to submission of the report.

Reporters are invited to attend the presentation. Please RSVP to:
