Over the course of the four-day retreat, participants debated some of the major challenges facing Israeli democracy with IDI scholars, IAC members and special guests. In depth discussions were held on Israel's proposed "Basic Law", as well as new challenges to cybersecurity and the delicate balance that Israel and other democracies must strike between fighting terrorism and maintaining the rule of law. At the close of the retreat, council member Justice Stephen Breyer welcomed participants to the United States Supreme Court, where IDI convened a panel comprised of Supreme Court Justices from around the world. The panel topic was the role of the Supreme Court in a democratic nation.
