The Integration of Ultra-Orthodox Young Adults in the Israeli Economy

The following interview with Dr. Aviad Hacohen, Dean of the Sha'arei Mishpat Academic College, was conducted prior to IDI's 19th Caesarea Economic Policy Planning Forum, at which Dr. Hacohen and fellow researcher Dr. Lee Cahaner presented their findings on “The Forgotten Age in the Ultra-Orthodox Sector” during a session on Young Adults Aged 18-22.

In this interview, Dr. Aviad Hacohen reviews the main findings of the research he conducted with Dr. Lee Cahaner, highlighting the primary barriers to the integration of members of the ultra-Orthodox community into the Israeli economy and society today. He also touches on the question of whether the haredi community wants this integration or whether it's simply an economic necessity, and proposes ways in which integration can commence without compromising the ideals of this community.
