Roundtable on the Role and Functioning of Israel's Commission for Prosecutorial Oversight
The Israel Democracy Institute
4 Pinsker Street, Jerusalem
A joint event of IDI and the Kohelet Policy Forum
Israel's Commission for Inspection of the State Prosecution and Legal Representatives to the Courts, which is headed by retired Judge Hila Gerstel, began its work in April 2014 and has issued two reports since its establishment. The work of this commission was recently evaluated by retired Justice and former State Comptroller Eliezer Goldberg, at the request of Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, following a great deal of public controversy regarding the authority, methods of oversight, and institutional positioning of this body. Dealing with these questions is particularly important in order to preserve the independence and discretion of the prosecution, while at the same time enabling the Commission to improve the functioning, responsibility, and transparency the prosecution.
On Tuesday, October 13, 2015, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., IDI and the Kohelet Policy Forum will convene a roundtable to explore the role and functioning of Israel's Commission for Prosecutorial Oversight, which evaluates the prosecution and the representation of the state in Israel's court system.
This Hebrew event will be broadcast live on the IDI website.
