Roundtable: Law and the Community: The Takana Forum
The Israel Democracy Institute | 4 Pinsker Street, Jerusalem
The activities of the Takana forum - a group of scholars, educators, and religious established to deal with complaints about sexual harassment by authority figures within the religious Zionist community - raise both theoretical and practical questions: What are the advantages and disadvantages of having internal community organizations that seek to enforce unique norms of behavior on members of the community? What conditions should be placed upon the activities of such organizations?
These questions were at the heart of an IDI George Shultz Roundtable discussion entitled "Law and the Community," which brought together academicians, experts in law, public servants, and representatives of the Takana Forum on May 10, 2010.
